House Subcommittee to keep Israel on the Gravy Train

Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), Chairwoman of the House State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, announced today that the subcommittee approved their Fiscal Year 2010 bill, retaining full U.S. assistance to Israel. Despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's refusal to halt settlement expansion, as demand by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Israel would still receive $2.22 billion in assistance. The US-Israeli Memorandum of Understanding regarding aid to Israel would be fully funded despite Israel's divergence from America's stated policy goals. If the subcommittee's aim is to show that opposing America comes without consequence, they are succeeding. The full text of the bill will be available Friday.
